What is Salba®?

Where does Salba® come from?

Salba® was first ‘discovered’ by painstakingly sorting out the few white seeds produced from the mostly black seed of the Salvia hispanica L. botanical variety.  Grown in South America, this whole food, in one form or another, has been around for more than 500 years  and is currently produced  in Peru’s pristine Amazon Basin.  It is certified Non-GMO and farmed without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

In ancient times the Aztecs valued it more highly than gold, and for good reason. As legend has it, after eating just a handful of this nutrient packed seed daily, Aztec messengers could run from village to village over a number of days! It’s no wonder they called this energizing ancient grain the “Aztec running food”.

How do I take Salba®?

To maintain Salba’s® exceptional nutritional profile it is not encapsulated or manufactured into any kind of tablet or gel cap. Instead, you will enjoy Salba® just as nature intended: as a raw and functional super food. The serving size is 2 tbsp / 12 grams. You can sprinkle Salba® on cereal in the morning, mix it with yogurt, smoothies or salads. You can use it to bake or cook with by including it in breads, cookies, muffins, burgers, soups, casseroles, pastas or anything else you desire.

Salba® is gluten free and makes an excellent substitute for flour (1 part ground Salba® replaces 3 parts flour). It can be used as an effective thickener for gravy, soups or sauces and can replace eggs in any recipe (¼ cup Salba® Gel as made with 2 tbsp of ground Salba® and ½ cup cold water can replace 1 egg).

What does Salba® taste like?
