European Journal of Clinical Nutrition published research provides a possible explanation for Salba's cardio protective effects observed in subject diabetics.

A recent study (Jan. 2010), lead by Dr. Vladimir Vuksan of St. Michael’s Hospital at the University of Toronto, assessed whether Salba® (Salvia hispanica L.) reduces postprandial glycemia in healthy subjects. The journal's results demonstrated decrease in appetite and glycemic index and further provided a potential explanation for improvements in blood pressure, coagulation and inflammatory markers.
